Granddaddy

Since our blog is our family scrapbook, I wanted to write a little about my Granddaddy. Hopefully, our kids will read our scrapbooks when they are older and since they won't know Granddaddy, they can read a little about him here :)

Some of my favorite memories of Granddaddy are:

1) WATERMELON!!! He loved them...and so do I! We ate countless watermelons on the picnic table in their backyard in Port Neches.

2) Their backyard. Granddaddy and Grandmother had a big, beautiful yard. Granddaddy always had it manicured like a professional. All of the grandkids would play for hours outside...volleyball, chase, hide and go seek, riding bikes, picking up pecans with the pecan-picker-upper, swinging on the back porch swing, playing in the pine straw around the trees, jumping on the pogo stick.

3) His garden. Granddaddy had the touch when it came to plants and his garden. He would always have a large garden with all kinds of vegetables.

4) His snore. He had a snore that could shake the windows! Seriously. I remember laying in the front bedroom at their house, wide awake and laughing till we (me and Jenny) cried over Granddaddy's snore that was so loud and strange, it just HAD to be fake!

5) His false teeth :) Granddaddy came from the old school of dentistry where they pulled all your teeth out and gave you fake ones! He liked to stick them out at us grandkids to make us laugh.

6) His sense of humor. Granddaddy loved to make people laugh! If he said or did something that made you laugh, he would keep on going as long as you continued. He was silly :)

7) He loved the Lord. He and my grandmother were Catholic until I think around the time I was born. They went to Cathedral in the Pines from then until they moved to Lake Jackson last year. He had a servant heart and loved to be an usher at his church. His favorite scripture was Psalms 103...it's a good one.

8) He was a hard worker and took care of his family. He and grandmother raised 6 kids who went on to give them 21 grandkids...and 4 great-grandkids to date, with another on the way :) and many more to come. Here are some of us:

There were all of us plus a bunch more at his funeral. This was after the memorial service at Cathedral Let's play "Where's Ryan?" He's in the picture but all you can see is his leg...

9) He served his country in the Navy during World War II.

10) He took me crabbing. I always remember that for some reason. It was so fun! We got chicken necks and went down by Rainbow Bridge and caught some crabs. A unique experience.

11) He loved to camp and travel.

I know I already put this on here but I love this picture :) It makes me smile. I am so glad that he got a chance to meet Ryan. I know Granddaddy knew exactly who Ryan was and he enjoyed his visit with him. We will visit again one day...it will be a long visit :)

Time marches on...

Things keep right on changing! I know that is what they are supposed to do but each stage seems to fly right by! It is a little bitter sweet.

Ryan is now getting his 2nd tooth! His first one is maybe 1/4 of the way in and the second one is right beside it on the bottom. They are so cute!

Ryan has been sitting up a lot better the last couple days. Tonight he sat by himself on the floor for about 1 minute...he would lean to the left or right and pull himself back to the middle. Amazing! Watching a little human develop is one of God's most priceless gifts.

Also, he started moving his hands in a clapping motion. I wouldn't say he is clapping yet...they don't make any noise. But it is the sweetest thing to watch his face as he does it. He usually holds his left hand still while "clapping" it with his right hand. I think this will be a favorite! Sometimes when he is upset, I can start clapping to a song and he will immediately stop crying and start to smile in amazement at the clapping :)

Another BIG deal for momma is, in the last couple of weeks, I have been able to add some things back into my diet that have been out for awhile now...namely BLUE BELL!!!!! WOOP WOOP and Praise the Lord!!! Moolenium Crunch, oh how I have missed you! You make me happy! Also added back, in moderation just to make sure, have been corn and pizza. I am still a little leery of beans...(you know...beans, beans, there good for your heart, continued...). My little man doesn't need any extra gas, if you know what I mean :)

Father's Day 2010

This was Michael's first official Father's Day :) We had a nice relaxing day. My dad was out of town and Michael's dad was working so we just got to do what Michael wanted! We went to church and I told Michael I would cook him whatever he wanted or we could go eat wherever he wanted. He thought about it for awhile and he picked:

This. THIS is what he wanted when he could have picked anything. I had leftovers. I have not eaten pizza in months cause last time I ate it, it upset Ryan's tummy. So this was not what I have been dreaming of for my first pizza! Michael loved it though!

We had a nice day which included naps for all 3 of us. We got Michael a mouse pad with Ryan's picture on it, a small hatchet for camping and a set of walkie talkies for camping (to help with backing in the trailer, etc.). Michael was happy :)

Pool party!

Yesterday was party day! It was Cody's graduation party/Dennis's 40th birthday party! Which means pool party at Curtis and Sherri's house :) We had to get a ball cap for Ryan to help keep sun off his face:
Doesn't he look like such a boy??!! I love it!

Ryan LOVED the water! He kicked and splashed and had so much fun! He didn't even care when he splashed water in his face...just kept on splashing and smiling :)

He enjoyed the day and so did we!

Swimming! (or just splasing)

I love Ryan's bathing suit! It was a gift from a friend of mine. Problem is...the swim shirt is too small! It was like scuba gear...and showed every adorable love roll :)

The hat was a LITTLE to big!

Ryan took a while to warm up to the new pool....and he never really cut loose like he does in the bathtub. But we have plenty more hot days to try it again this summer!

Remember I said how Ryan would roll off his mat now? Check this out:

He is a roller!

Love this picture of Michael and Ryan...so sweet!
Yesterday, my granddaddy (mom's dad) passed away and is with Jesus now. He had a long battle with stroke effects, Parkinson's disease and numerous other ailments. I am so happy for him to be whole and healthy! And so thankful to our saviour, Jesus, for making a way to heaven for us. What peace to know we will all be together again...for eternity. (p.s. Granddaddy is supposed to tell our baby in heaven that we love him/her. Obviously, I don't know how this all works but it makes me feel good to know he's there with our baby. My mom told me that he actually has 6 grandbabies/great-grandbabies in heaven! Wow!)

7 months old!

Cannot believe we have a 7 month old! He is so fun! This week he started this:

So cute! He is getting stronger...almost sitting by himself...but not quite. He is rolling back and forth now...will roll off of his mat :)

We don't have a lot going on this weekend and I am so glad! Michael got us a new blow up pool so we might get in it this weekend with Ryan. I think he will LOVE it...once he gets used to it! He is a little like his momma...it takes a little time to get used to change. This was Ryan in the bathtub ring last week at Uncle Ernest and Aunt Glenda's house:
He was not too sure about it :)

We enjoyed our visit with them last weekend!

We also tried the high chair for the first time last weekend...it worked out pretty well! We are trying to start the habit of eating all together...so now Ryan can sit with us!

We are still trying new things for Ryan to eat: squash=yummy, carrots=eeehhh-not so yummy, sweet potatoes=uuuuuuhhh---no thanks, green beans=liked them the 1st time, but not the 2nd time. Tonight he ate apples with rice cereal...he really liked that!

I have been playing with our camera a little...I love this picture :)

Memorial Day 2010

We had our first official King family camping trip over the Memorial Day weekend! We went up to Martin Dies Jr. State Park. It has two sections, Hen House Ridge and Walnut Ridge. When I was growing up, we would always stay at Hen House but it was full for the holiday so we stayed at Walnut Ridge. We really enjoyed being in our trailer! Since it was hot and Ryan is still small, we spent a lot of time in the trailer. It was good to read and relax.

The boys slept in :) (so did I)Ryan likes to kick back on the big bed

On our way home, we went by my parents house. They have been out of town working since the beginning of February and had gotten back a week before. Ryan is a different baby since they left! We hadn't gotten to see Chelle since Christmas so we are so glad she is spending some time with Grammy and PawPaw! Chelle is a good, big cousin!

Ryan's first golf cart ride :) Chelle drove! This year her legs are long enough to both steer and push the pedals! She did an excellent job...a very safe driver!

Goings on...

This is the 3rd night I have tried to get this blog written...3rd times the charm! Nothing major to say but we somehow are still very busy it seems! Ryan (Michael :) brought me flowers the other day...Ryan had a good grip on the bouquet!

Ryan LOVES his bath still! Michael and I are very wet after every bath now....mostly Michael cause he is on the feet end of the bath tub :). He has almost outgrown his baby tub. We will be headed to the big tub before long!

(p.s. the electric plug looks like it is RIGHT beside Ryan but actually it is out of reach :)....but I think I might need to put plug covers on it just in case)
Ryan has started pulling himself up to a sitting position when he is in the tub or anytime we have him leaning back on us. I'm sure some 6 pack abs will be here for summer! Ryan LOVES his toes still. They must taste REALLY good:)

Ryan is 6-1/2 months now and we just had his doctor appointment yesterday...20 pounds 5 ounces and 27-3/4 inches long! We are so thankful for our healthy, growing boy!
