Craft night

My sister, Jenny, is SUPER creative! She is definitely talented! We enjoy doing crafts together and decided we needed to have a craft night every month! Last month, we started on a "Happy Birthday" banner I am making for Ryan. (Still need to finish that!)

This month, we made a "Boo" sign for Halloween. It's pretty simple but I think it's cute :)
We have fun being sisters!

I am not a big Halloween person. My family did not celebrate it while I was growing up. But we are going to let Ryan dress up and there are a lot of people in our neighborhood that have hay rides and a lot of trick or treaters. It should be fun this year! I ordered Ryan's costume yesterday and he is gonna be so cute!

Vacation 2010...part 2

We had a good time in Austin. I had not been there for 12 years so I feel like I don't know the city at all. We stayed at a camp ground in town so we were close to everything. They were working on the capital but it was still very pretty.
We also went to the Texas History Museum and we both really enjoyed it (Ryan took a nap:) There is a ton of information and it was good to be reminded about the history of our state. Another thing I was very excited about doing was eating at the Salt Lick! We had seen them talk about it on the Food Network and it looked good...and it WAS! Oh my, it was delicious! The meat was cut with a fork tender and moist and the BBQ sauce was delicious and very different from anything I had had before. I was trying to figure out some of the flavors and one thing that I think I tasted was BUTTER. Can't go wrong with that! Yummy! We sat on the enclosed front porch...loved it!

This is the huge pit inside the restaurant
We also went shopping at the HUGE Cabela's there. They had a TON of taxidermy-ed (sp?) animals there...some animals I had never heard of! Ryan liked the big aquarium with tons of huge fish! I had to put this picture on here so we can remember how bad Michael's eye was...he had pink eye most of the trip and at this point it was pretty bad. He had to buy some grandpa sunglasses to keep as much light as possible :) Shouldn't have put a smiley face there...he was pretty miserable.
The glasses
On Friday, we headed to Lufkin for the annual King family reunion. We stayed at Uncle Ernest and Aunt Glinda's house. We stayed with them until Sunday evening and got to visit with them, Natalie, Brandon, Caroline, Peter, Amy, Dennis, Kate and Laura. We had such a good time just getting to hang out. I love see Ryan having fun! I could tell that he loved being around the kids that are bigger than him but at least closer to his size :) He squealed and cut up and was obviously enjoying himself!
I thought he looked so handsome in his outfit for church
It was good to be away for 10 days but it was also good to get back home :)

Vacation 2010...part 1

We went to the Frio River last week for a few days! The water was pretty low but it was still nice, cool and flowing a little bit. This is a place that we have gone almost every year since I was about 10 years old and I so loved getting to bring Ryan this year for his first trip :)

This was when he first got in the water

We met my parents there (they had already been there for about a week). Jenny and Chris are usually there also but they couldn't come this year.

We ate at our favorite place, Neal's and had our usual Chicken Fried Steak, scalloped potatoes, creole green beans, corn on the cob, tea and YUMMY rolls :) I love tradition. We have been eating this meal forever and every year it is still just as good! They have a big deck outside that overlooks the Frio and this picture was taken there

After dinner, we went to sit by/in the water. Ryan LOVED getting to kick/splash in the water
This is our camp ground...7 Bluff. The property has dozens of pecan trees on it to it is nice and shady. We always see tons of deer when we stay there. They have a deer feeder and this year we watched at least 30 deer eat and hang out for a long time. We were wondering why seeing deer never gets old?! It is amazing.
This year we were there after everyone was back in school. It was HEAVEN! Michael and I floated one day and did not see one other soul until about the last 5 minutes of our 2 hour float. During the summer, we would have been floating with hundreds of other people. It felt like we owned the river and it was NICE :) Mom and dad were the only people in the camp ground for a few days and while we were there, there were only about 4 other travel trailers and a few people in the cabins. It's nice to see some hills and different scenery than southeast Texas.

This is why we love it there

Ryan did very well in our trailer. He has been playing with his Bumbo instead of sitting in it :)

When we left the Frio, we headed to Austin for a couple days...

No more...

Ryan has decided that he is too big to nurse! I cannot believe it! It all started when he bit me (you know where) a couple weeks ago...this is what happened when I pumped at work the next day...

Gross, I know! (it looks worse than it was...it just hurt for a couple seconds) I watched carefully when he was nursing and it wasn't bleeding but something with the pump seriously sucked out the blood! Needless to say, I didn't pump on that side until it healed up (just a day or so).

He did try to bite me a couple times after that but nothing too serious :) He is getting some more teeth in so I think he is just wanting to bite anything he can.

This past Monday, he didn't want to nurse. Every time I tried, he would throw his head back and cry like I was being mean to him! What the HECK??!!! So I pumped and gave him bottles. That night he nursed during the night but wanted no part of it in the day light. And he has not nursed since!! I have tried several times since and get the same response. I think he is SO over it!

I admit to being a little sad about this. I SO loved nursing! I might have already written this before but since this is my good bye post to nursing I will say it again: I loved it! Every time! Love the closeness with Ryan. Loved knowing it was so good for him. Loved him needing me to nourish him. Loved it being SO soothing to him. Loved getting to sing to him and talk to him as he ate. Loved having my hand free to touch his head and face and love on him. Loved the miracle of it all. Not that it was always easy...but I still loved it.

Before I had Ryan, I didn't really get it when people would say they loved, enjoyed nursing. I knew I wanted to nurse but enjoy/love it??!!! Huh?!

I get it now.

(This sounds a little dramatic! Seems like I have been that way lately! Oh well :) I will continue to pump until he is 1 and can drink cow milk. Until then, I will be the cow:)
